Feeding
Put in place a plan for appropriate types and levels of
feeding, taking account of body condition score and
dental disease.
Housing
Older horses may cope less well with inclement
weather, so consider whether shelter and rugging
is adequate.
Dental care
Dental examinations at least every 12 months will
keep your old friend's teeth as pain-free and effective
as possible.
Foot care
Regular farriery is essential and can aid in the early
detection of laminitis.
Vaccination
As with people, veteran horses often have poorer immune
systems and vaccination, especially against tetanus and
influenza, becomes even more important.
