The 2nd FAVS Congress:
Royal Veterinary College
This February saw the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) host the
annual congress of the Farm Animal Veterinary Society (FAVS);
a relatively new organisation running within, and between, the
UK veterinary schools. Each school has its own society, aiming
to unite students with enthusiasm for all aspects of farm medicine.

FAVS Congress is a weekend dedicated to
lectures and practical sessions, bringing
together enthusiastic 'future farm vets' with
industry experts and leading vets. As such,
this is a great opportunity for furthering a
mutually beneficial partnership between the
XLVets of today and the potential XLVets of
tomorrow! This year XLVets was represented
by Lambert, Leonard and May and Synergy
Farm Health, although several other XLVet
members were present with 'different hats' on!
After just two years, the FAVS Congress is
already establishing itself as an important
event in bridging the gap between students
and the agricultural veterinary industry.
This year's event was a credit to the
organisation of the RVC FAVS Committee.
In a changing profession it is often tempting
to look at the past with the proverbial
'rose-tinted specs' and regard the future
with a certain amount of trepidation!
However the FAVS Congress is a clear
demonstration of the appetite that
remains for farm animal medicine.
Seeing over two hundred and fifty students
motivate themselves to drive long miles
and pay a fee for the privilege of
attending extra lectures on a Saturday
and Sunday is certainly a positive sign
for the industry's future.
Chatting to many of the delegates at
the trade show and having the privilege
of teaching some of them in the small
group workshops left an overwhelmingly
positive impression of the attitude and
aptitude of our future colleagues. The
next generation of farm vets brings
great potential for more Excellence
in Practice.
